About Belvedere
Belvedere Palace is steeped in history, providing visitors with a glimpse into the grandeur and opulence of the Habsburg monarchy during the 18th century. Additionally, it offers a fascinating insight into the life of Prince Eugene of Savoy, one of the most prominent figures of his time.
The complex consists of two palaces, the Upper Belvedere and the Lower Belvedere, which are connected by a magnificent garden. The Belvedere gardens are equally impressive, featuring meticulously landscaped grounds, fountains, sculptures, and manicured lawns. They offer a serene escape from the bustle of the city and provide stunning views of Vienna.
Upper Belvedere
The Upper Belvedere was constructed between 1717 and 1723 and served as the prince’s residence. It is particularly famous for its grand staircase, Marble Hall, and the world-renowned art collection, including works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka, making it a must-visit destination for art lovers.
Lower Belvedere
The Lower Belvedere was completed in 1716 and originally served as a guesthouse and entertainment venue. It features beautiful frescoes, lavish interiors, and a stunning garden pavilion. Today, it houses temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
Belvedere 21
Belvedere 21, also referred to as the 21er Haus, stands as a contemporary art museum nestled in Vienna, Austria. Although it belongs to the expansive Belvedere Palace complex, its primary focus lies on modern and contemporary art.
